Back in the days when my hair was more of the color that I was born with, I turned to a web site known as HTML Goodies to learn HTML basics. The site was created by Joe Burns, some guy who knew this thing called Hyper Text Markup Language. He felt the need to tell everyone about it (sounds familiar).
HTML Goodies was a big help in getting me started with HTML.
Recently I had reason to return to Goodies. Like all good sites that have been around for 10 years, I saw a lot of style changes. I couldn't help but notice that Goodies had become a part of Jupiter Communications.
What I was after - the goodies - were still pretty much there.
Here's what Goodies says of itself...
"Free html tutorials and help, images, color codes and more for the web developer. Featuring tutorials on HTML tags, programming, basics, JavaScript, frames, hex codes and more."
The left side navigation is straightforward, leading to the main content of the site. You'll see that the site is not only for beginners, but also for grizzly veterans who've been looking at too much source code.
Here are the links to content I thought would interest you.
Getting

Basic
HTML: Graduation
This title's a little misleading. The page discusses where to find web
hosting services, fees, and related matters concerning how to get your
web site off your computer and onto the web.
Over the years HTML Goodies expanded into other knowledge bases of web development. You'll find a large "Beyond HTML" section that deals with asp, cascading style sheets, cgi scripting, java applets, php, security, webmaster tips and xml to name a few goodies that interest me.
Note: While I still love HTML Goodies, it's not called "XHTML Goodies", and for good reason. Some of the information is dated because the current practice of using XHTML and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is not used. That doesn't mean you can't learn HTML and rapidly convert your knowledge to XHTML, something I'm sure to take up in a future Joy Gems.
