What is the fee for Intro To HTML? When can I start?
The fee for the class was $350 but in January 2012 I lowered it to $250. I wanted to make my HTML training service more affordable for everyone!!
You can pay using PayPal (the Internet’s most widely used payment system accepting all major credit and debit cards You do not need a PayPal account for this).
When you can start is one of the beauties of this class. You can start within minutes by enrolling today.
After enrolling, you’ll be instructed on how to log in.
You’ll be the only student in the class, so get ready to get plenty of attention.
-
What is your 10 day no risk money back guarantee?
You have ten days from the start of your training to advise me of cancellation and promptly receive a 100% ($350.) refund of the course fee. That’s no risk to you because, by that time, you will have seen at least the first 2 of 10 Lessons and Labs.
(No refund is available for those enrolling under some Discount Programs.)
Alternatively, you have the option to postpone the completion of the class at any time. You’ll be able to resume the class up to six months from the postponement.
-
What will I have learned when this class is over?
If you are diligent, and do all nine labs by the end of the class you will be on your way to creating web pages that suit a wide variety of needs. This is true whether you are a designer, graphic artist, programmer, writer, business owner, systems admin, career changer or anyone else needing to know how to make a web site.
You will not necessarily become a Jedi Webmaster because those skills take time to develop . For example, you won’t know how to style your web pages because that’s what Cascading Style Sheets is about and I teach that in another class, Practical CSS.
What you leave with is related to what you bring in. Follow my instructions (do as I say and do) so that post-class, you will have the skills to grow beyond the class.
You will have learned the material in a structured way so that you can continue to advance your skills long after the class is over. And you will be in a prefect position to learn CSS.
HTML is foundational and is known as the lingua franca of the web . This is a lot like learning to build a great stage upon which anything you wish to do on that stage will hold up.
-
What skills and abilities should I have before I start?
All you really need to know is how to use basic text editors like Notepad, or TextEdit. These applications are on every Windows or Apple system.
You also have to know how to use File and Edit menu commands like Save, Cut, Copy, and Paste.
Can you save and open files? Create new folders? You’re ready.
To excel in this class , you should be able to study on your own, even though Your Friendly Web Design Instructor will be there to guide you. Being well organized and self-motivated are big plusses too.
Here are some other things to consider if you’re wondering Whether Learning Online Is For You.
-
Does it matter which operating system I use? Are there any special applications I need?
No and no. This class is designed to work on every conceivable operating system. The only applications you’ll need are a web browser, email program, and text editor.
Because you will be learning HTML 5 a modern browser is highly recommended. Firefox or Internet Explorer will do the trick. Safari for the Mac works too. Google Chrome? Why not?
I will give you the fabulous images you will need for this class so knowledge of Photoshop and similar applications is not required.
Of course you’ll need an internet connection, but speed is not of critical importance.
-
Can I see some excerpted material?
Absolutely. Download any of these. You’ll need Adobe’s Acrobat Reader.
- Excerpt From Lesson 3 on Making Lists
- Here’s the page on how to make an unordered list.
- Excerpt From Lesson 4 on Error Checking Your Page
- Why you need to validate your code is explained.
- Excerpt From Lesson 6 on How To Add An Image To Your Page
- This explains how images are added to a web page.
- Excerpt From Lesson 9 on Grouping Tags
- Some of the new great HTML5 tags are show in this page.
- Excerpt From my Old World, New World article
- Not exactly a rant but a calm, cool and rational explanation about the differences of print and electronic design.
Take a look at some screenshots and videos too.
-
I have some knowledge of HTML, so why should I take this class? Do I really need to learn HTML?
Yes. Chances are your knowledge of HTML is incomplete at best, and was learned haphazardly like many people. With Intro To HTML you will…
- learn how to create well formed documents that validate to industry standards, and why that is important;
- use the new tags of HTML 5;
- get yourself ready to learn CSS.
What don’t you cover in this class?
Popular scripting languages, like Javascript, PHP or Perl, are mentioned but not taught since those are large subjects in themselves. If you’re a programmer and already know those or other languages, so much the better.
I also don’t teach design and production of rich media (much as I love them ) such as Flash, Quick Time, or Windows Media.
Graphics applications like Photoshop or Fireworks are not covered. But I do go over what kinds of image formats work best for the web.
-
Can’t I learn everything you teach for free? Why do you charge $250 to take your class?
- You will not get the PERSONAL attention I give you any other way – no one in their right mind will give you for free what I provide to you for a reasonable fee.
- The material you will learn and the techniques I use are proven. People have successfully learned how to create web pages from my method.
- The material is up to date, and that takes time, and you know what time equals.
-
I have a disability. Will your class work for me?
I have designed this class so that people with disabilities can access it. I do so using industry guidelines…and common sense.
Can I state this without equivocation? No. However, if there is a situation where someone can’t gain access to the course material, I want to know so that I can provide a resolution.
There will be external content which is outside the domain of this class (content of others that I link to). In those cases, I can’t make statements as to whether such content is accessible.
-
Who is this Friendly Web Design Instructor and what is his experience?
That’s me, Bud Kraus, Chief Education Officer of Joy Of Code.
I’m a teacher and consultant who is a proponent and practitioner of web design standards. I teach another online class, Practical CSS. (That’s what you take after you’ve finished with Intro To XHTML.)
I also teach WordPress using webinars for designers and business people.
I have been developing and teaching this class since 1997. I still get a kick out of seeing that light go on that tells me when someone gets it.
I want this class to work for you and be an enJOYable learning experience as it has been for many others.
I teach with passion. I love what I do and I hope you will too!!
-
How is the class organized? Tell me how it works and what I will be doing.
Say you start Intro To HTML today, Saturday and login to the class for the first time. That (in this case, Saturday ) becomes your weekiversary and every Saturday for the next ten weeks another Lesson (Chapter and Lab) is ready for you.
With each Lesson, you will read a Chapter, use the Code Tester to sample code, and then do a Lab which exercises the points in that Lesson’s material. After you complete the lab, you will post your work to your Work Space for me, your Friendly Web Design Instructor, to review. I’ll send my comments about your work via email within 48 hours after you’ve posted your work.
Once you get my review if there are corrections to be made you’ll need to make them before going on to the next Lesson since each week’s material builds upon what you have already learned.
As the weeks go on, course material is never taken down – just added on – so you can go back and refresh, or learn anew, previously covered material.
You never have to be at your computer at any given time. Take the class at work, home or at the beach!! (Well, that might not be such a hot idea.)
As we get to the finish line, you’ll be working on your Project, something that should have value to you beyond the duration of the class .
For a breakdown of each week’s material see the course outline.
-
What kind of support can I expect and how often can I get it?
I will do everything I can to review the Lab work you upload to your Work Space within 48 hours and send you my review by email.
Most of the time it’s a lot sooner.
-
What about phone support? Can I call you?
Phone calls are discouraged as the fee does not support my time to converse with you, much as I might like. (If there are serious problems, then we can arrange to talk by phone.)
If you are having a lot of problems I may ask that we do a webinar so we can go over things in real time.
-
Once I’m taking the class, can I change my schedule so I can do a Lesson in less than one week?
Yes. Some people prefer to accelerate the pace of the class by reading Chapters and doing Labs in less than one week intervals. Once you start the course , you can change your schedule to one that might be more suitable for you.
-
How much time should this take each week?
Tough to say because it depends on so many factors. It could range from an hour or two to much longer. If you keep at it the learning curve will flatten and you’ll be flying!!
Remember you can always go back and review something, because material is never removed as each week passes.
-
What if I need more than 10 weeks to finish the class?
Family emergencies, business trips, vacations, holidays, and the occasional need to mysteriously disappear for a while, cause some people to need more than 10 weeks to do the class.
Here’s the Overtime Rule if more than 10 weeks are needed:
If you can’t finish the class in the 10 weeks, I give you two extra weeks to wrap up. I still highly recommend that you complete the class within 10 weeks if at all possible. That’s the best approach.
If 12 weeks is still not enough time, you may continue for another two weeks for an additional charge of $50. That will give you almost four months to get all the "JOY" you could possibly need or want.
If more than 14 weeks are needed, then we lawyer up and negotiate!!
-
Can I print course material?
You have permission to print the material if you find that a hard copy is easier or more convenient for you to review. But my class is licensed to you and you alone, and no other copies, in any format or media, are allowed.
More about that in the Terms Of Service to which you must agreed and abide by in order to take this class.
